KURUNEGALA REGIONAL OFFICE
This office is responsible for covering the official duties of all temples/Viharas in the region, including 45 temples and 6 Devales managed under Section 4(1) of the Buddhist Temporalities Ordinance.
Key Functions of the Kurunegala Regional Office of Buddhist Affairs
Obtaining approved and semi-annual account reports and estimated budget reports from the places of worship.
Appointing Trustees for the managed places of worship.
Leasing out lands belonging to temples and devales.
Carrying out necessary official duties related to the property of deceased monks, including the release of funds from bank accounts.
Granting approval for the felling of trees on lands belonging to places of worship.
Releasing funds held at the Public Trustee Department for development work.
Issuing Sāmaṇera (Novice) and Upasampadā (Higher Ordination) Certificates.
Granting approval for business activities conducted on temple lands.
Handling matters related to the release of compensation funds for temple lands acquired for the Central Expressway Project.
Granting approval for acquiring temple lands for government development projects.
Participating in Dhamma School festivals and other religious events.
Granting Gem Licences.

The Department of Buddhist Affairs is the central government institution responsible for safeguarding, promoting, and administering the Theravāda Buddhist tradition in Sri Lanka through the guidance of temples, clergy, and community services.
