DECENTRALIZED SERVICES

In order to provide an efficient and accessible public service, the Department of Buddhist Affairs has decentralized many of its administrative and development functions. Through this process, the Department aims to ensure that Buddhist religious affairs and related public services are delivered effectively to temples, clergy, and lay devotees across all regions of the country.

Objectives of Decentralization

  • To strengthen the efficiency and responsiveness of the Department’s service delivery.

  • To empower regional and divisional offices in handling local religious and administrative matters.

  • To ensure equitable access to resources, guidance, and support for all registered temples and members of the Sangha.

  • To promote the active participation of local religious leaders and communities in Buddhist development activities.

Services Provided Through Regional Offices

  • Registration and administration of temples and monks.

  • Issuance of recommendation letters, certificates, and other official documents.

  • Supervision of Dhamma schools and religious education activities.

  • Coordination of Buddhist cultural and social welfare programs.

  • Implementation of special projects and grants under the guidance of the Department.

Regional and Divisional Offices

The Department operates a network of Provincial and District Buddhist Affairs Offices to support the efficient management of decentralized services. These offices function under the guidance of the central Department and are responsible for implementing government policies and directives related to Buddhist affairs within their respective areas.

For information and assistance, the public may contact the nearest regional or divisional Buddhist Affairs office.
