The Department in Focus
The Department of Buddhist Affairs is the central government body responsible for guiding, supporting, and regulating Buddhist religious institutions in Sri Lanka. With a commitment to safeguarding Buddhist traditions while addressing contemporary needs, we provide services to temples, Dhamma schools, and the community. Our mission is to preserve the spiritual and cultural heritage of Buddhism, ensure good governance within religious institutions, and promote Dhamma education for future generations.

Guiding Pillars of the Department
Dhamma School Division
Supervises the establishment, administration, and improvement of Dhamma Schools, supporting teachers and students in Buddhist education.
Vihara Dewalagam Division
Manages and oversees the administration, maintenance, and development of temples, shrines, and other Buddhist religious sites.
Development and Progress Control Division
Coordinates and monitors temple development projects, infrastructure improvements, and preservation of heritage sites.
Monk Registration Division
Handles the registration, records, and welfare of monks, ensuring compliance with Sangha regulations and proper documentation.
Kandy Regional Office
Provides localized support and administrative services to temples, monks, and Dhamma Schools in the Central Province and surrounding areas.
Information and Media Division
Promotes Buddhist activities and programs through media, digital platforms, and modern IT solutions, ensuring public awareness and engagement.
Kurunegala Regional Office
Supports Buddhist institutions and community programs in the North Western Province, offering guidance and regional administrative services.
